NED Admissions 2027: Entry Test Phases and Merit Formula

NED University is the first choice for many Karachi engineering students. Its admission depends on two things: your entry test and your first-year Inter marks.

NED merit formula

ComponentWeight
NED entry test60%
HSSC Part I (or O-Level equivalence for A-Level students)40%

You must score at least 50% in the NED test to qualify. Because HSSC Part I counts, your first-year board result directly affects your NED merit.

When is the NED test?

NED holds its test in two phases. In 2026 they were:

  • Phase I: 12–15 June 2026
  • Phase II: 6–9 July 2026

NED announced its 2026 schedule in late March, so expect the 2027 schedule around the same time, with tests in June and July 2027.

What this means for HSC-II students

Phase I can fall close to the end of your board exams and practicals. Register for both phases so that a clash or a bad day does not cost you the year.

How to prepare

  • Finish the full Inter syllabus before your board exams begin.
  • During boards, pause entry-test practice and focus on your papers.
  • After boards, switch to timed NED-pattern papers every day until the test.

Always confirm the schedule on NED’s admissions page.
